Judith Van Buskirk is a historian with a long career in academia with a special focus on the American Revolution. She is the author of books and articles based on original research and has contributed to projects by such luminaries as Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Ken Burns.

Her latest book, Standing in Their Own Light: African American Patriots in the American Revolution, explores the experiences of African American patriots both during and after the American Revolution, honoring their heroism and their sacrifices.
