Lunch at the Gypsy Saloon in Conshohocken & Guided Tour of Woodmont Mansion and Grounds in Gladwyne
Sunday, September 8
12:00 pm - Meet for lunch at Gypsy Saloon (128 Ford Street, Conshohocken), followed by tour of Woodmont Mansion and Grounds (1622 Spring Mill Rd Gladwyne).
We will carpool to Conshohocken for a 12:00 pm lunch at The Gypsy Saloon, then on to nearby Woodmont, in Gladwyne.
Visit Woodmont mansion, the final home and resting place of Father Divine, the charismatic civil rights leader who claimed to be God. Overlooking the Schuylkill River, the beautifully landscaped 72 acre estate is today the center of the International Peace Mission movement, the religious organization founded by Father Divine.
The French Gothic mansion was completed in 1894, for Alan Wood, Jr., a steel magnate and former U.S. Congressman. Known for his lavish lifestyle, Father and Mother Divine moved into the home in 1953, after his followers completely renovated and updated the home and grounds. All furnishings have been left as they were at his death. The estate is now a shrine to his life and a meeting place for his remaining followers.
The guided tour is free of charge. Attendees will pay for lunch.
