Philadelphia City Councilman Derek Green has been instrumental in the effort to bring the nation’s first municipal public bank to Philadelphia. Now that City Council has taken the first official step by authorizing the creation of the bank through the Philadelphia Public Financial Authority (“PPFA”), Councilman Green is eager to discuss the concept with us and answer our questions.

For example: How will such a bank serve the city? How does it different from conventional banking?

Councilman Green has had numerous leadership positions in the region, and his contributions range from working with East Mount Airy Neighbors to serving on the Executive Committees of the Democratic National Committee and the National League of Cities. His Council duties include chairing the Committees on Finance and Disabilities and serving as the Vice Chair of the Committees on Aging and Law and Government.
